Lord Murphy has caught the eye in his last two starts and looks worth a punt in the 6.55 at Wolverhampton today.
In the first of those the five-year-old finished sixth of 13 to Dor’s Law at Kempton but shaped far better than the result suggests.
After racing keenly and being held-up at the rear, Mark Loughnane’s charge was making good headway a furllong from home when denied a clear run.
He kept on nicely to be beaten 4 1/2 lengths without being unduly kncoked about once it was clear he would not be winning, leaving the impression that he finished with petrol left in the tank.
Lord Murphy backed that up with a keeping on never nearer 1/2 length third at Lingfield when briefly denied a clear run at a vital stage befiore finishing off powerfully to be gaining all the way to the line.
He has been raised just 1lb for that to 54, and that is 2lb lower than when last successful over course and distance last April when giving 11lb and a 1/2 length beating to Stamp Duty.
It makes him a big player at the weights if building on his latest efforts.
