Lucifer a devilishly good punt

Lucifers Shadow was a real eye-catcher on his handicap debut last time out and looks good value at 13/2 to open his account at the fifth time of asking in the 2.15 at Wolverhampton.

Sylvester Kirk’s charge didn’t show an awful lot in three maiden runs but put in a much improved effort on his seasonal reappearance last month when finishing sixth of 13 to Rise To Glory at Kempton off a mark of 55.

Held up well off the pace, he made good headway a furlong from home and kept on when inside the last without being subjected to an unduly hard race.

Although beaten 6 1/2 lengths it was a run which suggested that the penny was finally beginning to drop and he has since been dropped 3lb to a mark of 52.

That is certainly exploitable if he can build on his latest effort, and it would be no surprise to do him do just that given that his stable have started the season in good form.

His wide draw in stall 11 is a slight negative, but given his run style it may not be so much of a disadvantage and this is certainly a winnable race.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Lucifers Shadow (13/2 Ladbrokes – BOG)
