Make Your Mark looks magic at 8s

Posted on by Dave Metcalf

Make You Mark looks terrific value at 8/1 in the Neptune Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham today (2.05).

Willie Mullins has always held the gelding in the highest regard and after winning his bumper in fine style he cruised to victory when beating Competitive Edge at Leopardstown on his debut over hurdles.

He really impressed me that day and the good ground clearly suited him to the tee.

The five-year-old was then upped to Grade 2 company on his latest start, and ran a blinder to finish third to Boston Bob in the mud at Leopardstown.

Although eventually beaten just over 9 lengths he ran far better than that suggests as turning for home with two to jump there was nothing travelling better.

At that point he looked as if he would pick up the leaders and win with a bit to spare, but the soft ground then took it’s toll and Davy Russell did not knock him about once it was clear he would not be winning.

I am convinced that today’s ground will see him in far better light, and unlike the favourite Simonsig he is guaranteed to stay the trip.

To me he is the one they all have to beat, and at 8/1 rates the best bet of the day and an each-way steal.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 5pts each-way Make Your Mark (8/1 Boylesports – BOG, Stan James)
