Mambo Spirit has been shaping as if coming back to the boil and looks worth a wager at 5/1 to take advantage of his lenient handicap mark in the 3.25 at Bath today.

Tony Newcombe’s gelding was successful three times last season, with the last of those successes coming a a class 5 contest at Salisbury on quick ground off a mark of 63 where he ran on strongly to beat Bajan Bear by 1/2 a length.

The 10-year-old now gets into this lower grade class 6 affair off just 56, having run really well in his last two starts.

In the first of those Mambo Spirit didn’t get the clearest of runs before staying on to finish a 2 3/4 length fifth of 15 to Encapsualted over course and distance.

The veteran then backed that up with a solid third to Mrs Warren over 7f at Brighton, where he led until being headed inside the last and weakedn to be beaten just over 3 lengths over a trip which is not his best.

The drop back to 6f, over which he has been successful six times, is sure to suit and the booking of Martin Dwyer also catches the eye.

Dwyer was in the saddle when mabo Spirt last scored, and the fcat that he now partners him again for the first time since that victory suggests connections mean business.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Mambo Spirit (5/1 bet365, BetVictor, Coral, Hills, Sky Bet – BOG)
