Queen Of Skies put in a much improved effort when runner-up last time out and rates a solid bet at 5/2 to go one better in the 1.10 at Southwell today.

The mare had some decent form to her name as a three-year-old when traine by Clive Cox, finishing third fo 10 to Tropics over 7f at Kempton and occupying the same spot behind the now 112-rated Guest Of Honour at that venue.

She then ran well below par on her first start last year after moving to Tim Pitt, and then moved to join Mick Appleby.

It’s fair to say that she then didn’t show much in her next five starts for her new handler, but left those efforts well behind when beaten just a neck by General Futo in a  12-runner affair over course and distance 13 days ago.

The daughter of Shamardal only got colared late on after showing plenty of pace to race at the head of affairs, and now meets the winner on 6lb better terms.

That should be more than enough to reverse the placings, especially with the prospect of more to come now that her handler seems to have got her back on track, and this looks a good opportunity for her to finally open her account at the tenth time of asking.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Queen Of Skies (5/2 Coral, Hills, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Stan James – BOG)
