It was announced today by MMAJUNKIE.com that Bellator will land in London in 2016, Up until now, the extent of Bellator’s travels for international events has been seven cards out of more than 140 shows – and all seven have been just across the border in Ontario, Canada.
But that will change in 2016. Bellator announced today it will truly go global next year with events planned in London, Italy, and Tel Aviv, Israel. No dates or fights for the proposed cards were announced.
“We are thrilled to bring the incredible excitement of hard-hitting Bellator action featuring some of the best athletes in the world to our new global partners in the U.K., Israel, and Italy,” Bellator President Scott Coker stated. “The London event is especially encouraging as we will broadcast the main card in the U.K. on one of the country’s most-distributed broadcast channels, Ch. 5.”
The card in London is planned for O2 Arena, a release from the promotion said, with a main card broadcast live on the U.K.’s Ch. 5 – but on tape delay on broadcast partner Spike in the United States. Spike’s U.K. affiliate will broadcast prelims for that event live there, as well.
