Monteverdi has some smart form to his name and at 11/2 rates the best bet on this evening’s card at Goodwood (6.35).
Jamie Osborne’s charge won his sole start as a juvenile and ran a blinder on seasonal reappearance last season when second to 10 to Acclaim in a hot class 2 handicap at Newmarket off a mark of 86.
He kept on strongly from off the pace to be beaten 1 1/2 lengths and the winner, from whom he was receiving just 1lb, went on to score three more times including in Group 2 company, to be rated 114.
Monteverdi backed that up with a solid third of 20 to Castle Harbour in a class 3 affair at York of 88 before failing to sparkle in three subsequent outings in class 2 and 3 contests.
He is now in this lower grade class 4 handicap off 84 having been dropped 2lg since making his reappearance at Windsor last month when racing alone and having no chance with the main group and finishing seventh
That makes him dangerously well-treated on his run off the same mark behind Acclaim, especially if the fitting of the blinkers for the firts time have the desired effect.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Monteverdi (11/2 Betfred, BetVictor, Sky Bet, William Hill – BOG)
