My Mate Mal handicapped to strike

My Mate Mal has been given a glorious opportunity by the handicapper in the opener at Wolverhampton (2.15) and makes plenty of appeal at 7/1.

The eight-year-old is sure to strip fitter for his recent run at Southwell where he led before weakening badly as lack of a run took its toll after 325 days on the sdieleines, and now runs off a career-low mark of 50.

That his a massive 17lb lower than his last success at Southwell back in February 2010, and although he has not got his head in front for a long time he has run a series of highly cerditable races off higher marks than today’s.

The gelding’s twice finished third at Southwell at the beginning of last year off marks of 60 and 58, and this looks a superb chance for him to score an overdue success.

He is equally effetive here as at southwell, and both of his career wins on the all-weather have actually come over today’s course and distance.

Another plus is that he is an uncomplicated ride who likes to be up with the pace, and that can be a major advantage in amateur riders’ handicaps like this.

He also has a good drw in stall 3 from which to attack, and to me he has everything in his favour.

At 7/1 he looks an each-way steal.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way My Mate Mal (7/1 Sky Bet)
