Western Pearl looks nicely treated in the 2.25 at York and worth an each-way punt at 18/1.
Bill Knight’s mare hasn’t scored since landing a maiden at Ffos Las back in 2010 but she has run well at up to Listed level and finished a fine third in this last year to Tactician off a mark of 91 in what was a strong looking race than today’s.
She kept on well that day to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths and is now able to race of a 1lb lower mark having shaped with plenty of promise on her last two starts.
The five-year-old caught the eye when finishing 7th of 15 to High Jinx at Newmarket last month when weakening late on to be beaten 7 1/2 lengths and now meets that rival on 6lb better terms.
She then ran well when fifth of 20 to Simenon in the Ascot Stakes last time up where the 2m 4f marathon trip stretched her stamina to the limit.
Having chased the leader and held every chance a furlong from home she was unable to find any extra and keep on at the once pace to be beaten just under 8 lengths and the drop back in trip to 1m 6f is sure to suit.
Another plus is that the going at the Knavesmire will hold no fears for her, and judged on last year’s effort she looks weighted to go close and is too big a price.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Western Pearl (18/1 BetVictor – BOG)
