Pilgrims better than the Rest

Pilgrims Rest isn’t too badly treated on the pick of his form in the William Hill Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton (2.55) and at 10/1 looks good value to land the valuable prize.

Richard Hannon’s charge bon back to back Class 4 handicaps at Newbury and Leicester earlier this year off marks of 73 and 82 and went on to run two cracking races in two hot Class 2 handicaps.

The first of the came at Royal Ascot where he kept on well to finish a 2 1/4 length 5th of 18 to Fennell Bay in the King George V Stakes off 84, and he then finished an excellent fourth of 13 to Stature at Newmarket (beaten just 2 1/2 lengths) off 88.

The colt now gets into this off 89, and that shouldn’t be beyond him him judged on those efforts.

Another plus is that he won first time up last season, so he clearly goes well fresh and the fact that he has not raced for 171 days should not be a problem.

He also has the services of Richard Hughes in the saddle, and although drawn out wide in stall 12 he is tactically versatile and has the right pilot onboard to get him in a good position early doors.

To me he looks juts the type who will improve further this season and land some decent handicaps, and at the odds on offer rates a solid each-way punt.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Pilgrims Rest (10/1 Betfred, BetVictor – BOG)
