Redvers has a good record at Ascot and makes plenty of appeal at 16/1 in the Victoria Cup there today (3.50).

Ed Vaughan’s gelding is a dual course and distance winner, who finished fourth in this contrest 12 months ago before going on to score twice.

The last of those successes came over course and distance where he produced a career best effort to beat Gabriel’s Lad by a neck off a mark of 95.

The six-year-old then ran a really solid race to finish fifth of 17 to Heaven’s Guest, again over CD, of today’s mark of 98.

That race suggested that his current mark should not be beyond him, and although well beaten on his seasonal reappearance that was over an unsuitable 6f without the usual headgear.

It was a spin which should have blown away the cobwebs and put him spot on for this, and connections are now refitting him with the blinkers.

Today’s 7f trip is absolutely ideal, and his record in big field handicaps and runs at this track suggest he is a big player and well worth an each-way wager at the odds on offer.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Redvers (16/1 generally available – use BOG firms paying first 5 places)
