Right Regal starts life off as a three-year-old on a handy looking mark and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 16/1 in the 7.55 at Kempton.
Marco Botti’s charge shaped really well on his first two starts as a juvenile in warm maidens at Newmarket and looks the type who will come into his own this season.
He stayed on well after dwelling at the start on his debut to finish a never nearer 3 length third to the useful Coupe de Ville and then ran an even better race next time up when fourth to Rougemont.
The son of King’s Best showed far more pace that day and after being switched to lead at the furlong pole kept on well once headed to be beaten 4 lengths.
He finished just 3/4 of a length behind Mickdaam, who is rated 112 on the all-weather (104 turf) and enjoyed a fine time in top class company in Dubai before chasing home Rougemont (rated 105) in the valuable Tattersalls Millions sales race at Newmarket two weeks ago.
That form is strong and makes Right Regal look potentially very well treated from an opening mark of just 75.
It’s true that he did disappoint on his third start at Epsom, but I am inclined to forgive horses who under perform there and he ran much better on a more conventional track when finishing a good 8th of 16 to the highly promising Gregorian on his final start at Doncaster last October.
Tonight’s race looks a hot little contest, but there is no way in my book that he should be 16/1 and at those odds he has to be worth an each-way play.
