Rocket Ronnie has been given a chance by the assessor and looks worth siding with at 5/1 in the 3.40 at Wolverhampton today following an eye-catching run last time out on his first start for trainer Ed McMahon.

The gelding was a three-time winner in 2013 when trained by Dandy Nicholls, with the last of those successes coming at Beverley where he slammed Rede Charmer by 7 lengths off a mark of 74.

The five-year-old got put up 10lb to 84 for that runaway success, and failed to trouble the judged in his next eight starts.

However that resulted in his mark falling, and Rocket Ronnie ran really well off 71 when beaten just a neck by Shadowtime at Beverley last July.

He also shaped far better than the finishing position suggests in his last three runs in 2013 off 74, 73 and 71 and is now able to race in this off 70.

That is 4lb lower than when last successful and gives Rocket Ronnie a big shout at the weights.

He is also entitled to come on for his recentv start at Kempton, his first for 98 days, where he encountered trouble in running and was eased when keeping on from off the pace and with Graham Gibbons in the saddle everything points to a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Rocket Ronnie (5/1 Betfred, BetVictor, Boylesports, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power – BOG)
