Mustajeeb looks to hold major claims at 6/1 of landing the Jersey Stakes which opens the day’s proceeding at the Royal meeting (2.30).

Trained by Dermot Weld, the son of Nayef  had just three runs as a juvenile, winning easily at Galway on the second occasion before finishing an excellent three length runner-up to War Command in a Group 2 contest at the Curragh.

The colt looked the type who would do better as a three-year-old, and he looked to have done very well physically when making a winning reapperance at Leopardstown against his elders.

After racing in mid-division, Mustajeeb stayed on strongly from two out and lengthened well to win going away by 2 1/2 lengths from Brendan Bracken.

It was a visually impressice success, and the pair pulled 3 1/2 lengths clear of the third.

Connections then picthed Mustajeeb into Group 1 company, and he ran very well to finish third to Kingman in Irish 2,000 Guineas.

Although no match for the easy winner he kept on well to be beaten 7 lengths after racing up with the pace on the heels of the leaders, and Kingman franked the form by bolting up in yesterday’s St James’s Palace Stakes.

The soft ground at the Curragh was not ideal for Mustajeeb, and the quicker surface today looks sure to suit.

The drop back to 7f should also not be a problem, and he looks the type who is open to plenty more improvement and well up to win a race of this nature.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way  Mustajeeb (6/1 bet365 – BOG 1/4 odds 1,2,3,4)
