Despite the possibility that Russia will rest players in tonight’s Euro2012 clash with Greece (7.45pm KO, Live on BBC3) they still look a cracking bet at 5/6 with BetVictor to come out on top.
Dick Advocaat’s side are almost through to the quarter-finals and a draw would suffice.
He has a squad recovering from the excursions of the long Russian domestic season and he may well be tempted to save some legs for the next stage.
However, he will surely have in mind that a victory would see them top the group which would more than likely see them avoid Germany in the last 8.
For that reason, I think that the Russian’s will be keen to put this game to bed and at just a shade of odds-on they look tremendous value to take care of a gusty Greece side that lacks any cutting edge.
The stats are certainly in Russia’ favour. They have won 13 of their previous 21 internationals against Greece, losing just three and the Greeks have lost both of their previous meetings in the European Championships.
Russia are also now unbeaten in 16 games (won 8), and Greece are without a win in their last five games at Euros (D1 L4).
The Russian’s really should be far too classy for them whatever side Advocaat puts out, and I think BetVictor’s price is wrong and that most other firms have got it right in going just 8/11.
I fancy them to win 2-0, and that outcome is an 8/1 chance with BetVictor and Hills.
