Rydon Pynes has a good record fresh and looks decent value at 10/1 in the 1.50 at Newbury today.

Martin Hill’s gelding had some smart for to his name in bumpers, and has shown progressive form since going hurdling.

The seven-year-old has had just seven starts over the obstacles, and is yet to finish out of the frame in the five starts he has completed.

He finished a decent second to the very useful Whisper on hurdling debut at Ffos Las back in February 2013, and went on to win at Exeter on his third satrt when bearting Flemnson by a length after 249 days on the sidelines.

Rydon Pines was then off the track for another 95 days before running a blinder in this contest last year when beaten just 1/2 a length by Upswing off a mark of 125.

He has had just three runs since, and won in good style off a mark of 128 when last seen in action at Chepstow in April of last year.

A 3lb rise for that success looks more than fair as Rydon Pines looks the type who should have more to offer and is only 6lb higher than when second in this 12 months ago.

Although this is his first start for 288 days, he has run very well on several occasions in thepast after a lay-off and fitness should not be an issue.

The ground will also hold no fears, and at the odds on offer looks well worth an each-way wager.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Rydon Pynes (10/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
