Sagesse makes her eagerly anticipated handicap debut in the 7.00 at Wolverhampton this evening and rates a solid bet at 5/2 to make it a winning one.

Sir Mark Prescott’s filly shaped really well on her racecourse debut over 1m 1f at this venue last August when fourth of 11 to Quantify and confirmed that promise when winning in good style on her reapperance at Kempton last month.

The daughter of Smart Strike was upped in trip to 1m 13f that day and after racing up with the pace stayed on well to beat Conserve with more in hand than the 1 1/4 length margin suggests.

That was her first run for 170 days and she looks sure to improve bundles for it.

The runner-up was also officially rated 72 and had some decent placed form in the book, and that makes Sagesse look potentially well-treated  off an opening mark of just 76.

There is no doubt in my mind that she is likely to prove far better than that, and it would be no surpise to see her handler place her to maximum effect in the coming weeks.

The further step up in trip to 1m 4f also looks sure to suit, and in a race consisting of exposed rivals this looks a golden opportunity for her to go in again.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Sagesse (5/2 Coral, Stan James – BOG)
