Smugglers Creek looks worth a punt at 14/1 in the 7.15 at Newcastle today.

The gelding showed steady improvement last year when trained in Ireland by Mark Walford, comning good at the third time of asking at Dundalk.

He dug deep to give 3lb and a neck beating to Delegating who was rated 69 going into the contest.

The third home Peace Officer, who was beaten a further 3 1/2 lengths, has won since to be rated 66.

It made an opening handicap mark of 69 for Sungglers Creek look exploitable and although only fifth off it on debut for Iaian Jardine at Wolverhampton he shaped as if needing the race after a break and was only beaten 2 3/4 lengths after being sent off favourite.

With that spin under his belt he should not be spot on to do himself justice and a bold bid looks on the cards.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Smugglers Creek (14/1 bet365, BetVictor – BOG)
