Smuggler’s Stash looks on a workable mark on chase debut in the 2.20 at Hexham today and worth siding with at 7/1.

The gelding was a point winner in Ireland and posted his best effort for trainer Rose Dobbin at Ayr three starts back when a staying on 11 3/4 length third of 16 to W Six Times over 2m 4f off a mark of 100.

He the disappointed in his next two starts when well-backed, sent of favoruite in the last of those, but has since been given a break to freshen up.

The six-year-old now switches to fences off a rating of 97 and that looks explitable judged on his effort at Ayr.

Today’s trip of 3m should also suit given that his win between the flags came over that distance and he looks the type that wil make a better chaser than a hurdler.

The stable is also in decent shape having saddled two winners and two placed from its last 14 runners and with Craig Nichol in the saddle everything looks in place for a big run in what is a weak race lacking any real strength in depth.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Smugglers Stash (7/1 bet365, Betfred, Ladbrokes, Sky Bet, Stan James, William Hill – BOG)
