Spanish Duke too big at 12/1

Spanish Duke has a good record fresh and looks cracking each-way value at 12/1 in the opener at today (2.00).

John Dunlop’s gelding was barely off the bridle when beating Resuge by a length at Epsom in his seasonal reappearance last year, and although his form tailed off after he is now back down to a very workable mark.

His win at Epsom came off a mark of 95, and not surprisingly the handicapper reacted to the ease of his win by slamming him up 10lb to 105.

The five-year-old is now able to run off 100, and his record suggest atyht first time up is the time to catch him.

Both his most impressive wins have come after 63 and 179 days on the sidelines, and he clearly doesn’t take much getting ready.

He also has his ideal conditions this afternoon, is one from one over the trip and has the services of Ryan Moore in the saddle.

Everything looks in place for a huge run, and I am surprised that he is available to back at double figure odds.

I had him priced up at 8s, so at the 12s on offer with Hills he looks overpriced and solid each-way value.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Spanish Duke (12/1 Hills – BOG)
