Swinging Sultan did us a favour when scoring last time out and rates a solid bet at 9/4 to follow-up in the 2.00 at Doncaster today.

Keith Reveley’s gelding won a Sedgefield bumper back in 2011, and  shaped with bags of promise in his first two starts on the level this year following 352 days on the sidelines before scoring on his handicap debut at Haydock 9 days ago.

The first of those efforts came over 1m 1f at Redcar where after being held-up at the rear he made good late headway to finish a never nearer 6th of 14 to Wyldefire under considerate handling.

He then put in an even more eye-catching display here over 1m 4f when fourth of 11 to Mad Moose.

The six-year-old was switched left at the start and held up off the pace that day before making headway three from home and keeping on well to be beaten 5 lengths without ever being placed to challenge or knocked about in any way.

He was given what looked like a lenient opening handicap of 75 on the back of those efforts and duly took advantage when beating Reflect with far more in hand than the winning margin of 3/4 of a length suggests over 1m 4f at Haydock.

Held-up that day, he travelled strongly throughout but was denied a clear run when making his move approaching the final furlong.

However his jockey Tom Eaves didn’t panic, and when a gap did appear he showed a smart turn of foot to put the race to bed and win very cosily.

The handicapper has put him up 7lb for that success, but such was the manner of his victory it is unlikely to stop him going in again and he is very much a handicapper to keep on the right side.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Swining Sultan (9/4 Paddy Power – BOG)
