Sugar Baron looks potentially throw-in at the weights on handicap debut in the 3.45 at Kempton today and is of major interest at 6/1.
Nicky Henderson’s gelding looked a smart prospect when winning a bumper on debut at Ascot and only having to be shaken-up to readily beat stable companion Gold Present with far more than the 1 1/2 length winning margin suggests.
The runner-up is now rated 136, and the and the manner of that success suggested Sugar Baron he has a big engine and a bright future over the obstacles.
That view was confirmed when he bolted up on debut in that sphere when beating Ar Mad – who is now rated 124 over hurdles and 155 over fences – by 18 lengths at Newbury.
Sugar Baron was then far from disgraced when last seen in action over course and distance back in March and finishing at 8 1/4 length fourth to Our Kaempfer.
The winner and runner-up Port Melon are now rated 140, and the third home Mister Fizz is rated 144.
That is strong form and suggests that the assessor has taken a big chance in allotting Sugar Baron an opening mark of just 131.
The five-year-old also remains unexposed and open to stacks of improvement, and with underfoot conditions holding no fears looks to have everything in his favour to make a winning return to action.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Sugar Baron (6/1 Betfred, William Hill – BOG)
