Silvestre De Sousa is an eye-catching booking for Lucky Dan in the 8.40 at Catterick, and the gelding looks worth a punt at 7/1 to score an overdue success.
Paul Green’s charge is not the easiest to win with but shaped encouragingly last time out and is certainly weighted to win.
The six-year-old stayed on well over course and distance last month after getting outpaced early doors to finish a never nearer fifth of 15 to Boucher Garcon where he looked in need of stronger handling.
He gets that today in the shape of SDS, and his current mark of 64 is 10lb lower than when he was last successful on the all-weather at Wolverhampton in January 2011.
It is the lowest rating he has been on since 2009, and although he hasn’t won for a long time he has run some really creditable races and there is little doubt in my mind that he will win sooner rather than later.
This looks a decent opportunity for him, and it’s also interesting that as well as putting a top class pilot on him connections are fitting him with the visor for the first time.
That could well sharpen him up and enable him to stay in touch early doors, and if he is within striking distance at the furlong pole nothing will be finishing stronger.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Lucky Dan (7/1 bet365 – BOG)
