Here DAILY SPORT gets an exclusive UK interview with Sergio Martines ahead of his fight with Matthew Macklin.

Samaarah – You seemed like your always good at sports, what made you take the career path of a boxer instead of cyclist or footballer?

Sergio Martinez – It was much easier for me to do boxing than any other sports even though I am good at a variety of sports.

Samaarah – Your first fight was with Antonio Margarito in 2000 and that was also the first time you travelled overseas how did you feel having such a big moment in Vegas and had your first loss?

Sergio Martinez- I felt very happy and very motivated but I did not know I needed that level of  experience to be there.

Samaarah – How was your transformation from Light Middleweight to Middleweight been for you?

Martinez – Actually I started as a Welterweight and I gradually grew and adapted to the new category Welterweight and the Super Middleweight and I think that was the best move for my boxing career.

Sergio Martinez – Macklin and Barker are the only ones that decided to fight me, so I’m fighting with Europeans lately.

Samaarah – Do you think you might fight in the United Kingdom in the future?

Sergio Martinez – That’s something I cannot dismiss, there is a possibility.

Samaarah – With regard to your training for this fight how is it different for the previous fights you have trained for and what new advice has your coach given you?

Sergio Martinez – The training is as good and as hard as ever, we have prepared a great strategy to combat March 17th against Matthew Macklin.

Samaarah – Floyd Mayweather said recently that if you made the weight of 150 he can make the fight with you, being so close to the fight in March with Macklin would you prepared to drop weight and fight Floyd Mayweather in the future?

Sergio Martinez – Absolutely if I can give him the 150lbs.

Samaarah – You seem to be a lovely personality and a hit with the ladies, tell us apart from the male boxing fans what message do you have for the female boxing fans around the globe?

Sergio Martinez – Well I would like to say thank you very much to everyone of those ladies following me and I will continue to care for people following me.

Daily Sport says – Catch the fight live on Sky Sports 1 12am Sunday 18th March.
