Blackstone Vegas is back down to below his last winning mark and makes plenty of appeal at 7/1 in the 3.15 at Pontefract after shaping as if coming back to form lats time out.

Derek Shaw’s gelding won two staying handicaps last season, the first coming at Kempton of a mark 55.

He followed that up with victory over today’s course and distancet where he stayed on well to beat Mojolika by 1 1/3 lengths off 59 , and went on to be placed off 67 when trying to complete the hat-trick at this venue.

It fair to say that his form tailed off after that, but his mark has fallen as a result and he now gets into this off just 55 having shaped nicely last time out over an inadequate trip at Warwick.

He was staying on strongly when finding himself short of room inside the last in that 1m 7f contest and was beaten just a length into fourth of 11 behind Chapter Five.

It was a run which suggested his time was near again, and with the step back up to 2m 1f looking sure to suit  he is weighted to take all the beating in this now that he is 4lb below his last winning mark.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Blackstone Vegas (7/1 bet365, Hills – BOG)
