Vexillum for victory

Posted on by Dave Metcalf

Vexillum has proven for in the mud and looks the one to be on at 9/1 in the 3.10 at Yarmouth today.

Mick Channon’s showed that he was capable of winning a race of this nature when keeping on well to finish fourth of 12 to Mistress Of Rome in the soft at Nottingham 10 days ago.

He tracked the leader before taking up the running two out, and plugged on dourly to be beaten just over five lengths.

Although it was not the strongest of contests, the assessor has droped him a 1lb to a rating of 59 and having started life off in handicaps on 67 he is now on a workable mark.

Indeed, judge on the promise he showed when 7th of 16 to the useful Gregorian in a decent maiden at Doncaster last season it could be argued that he is well-in here, and although more exposed that many of his rivals his experience and ability to act on the ground are major pluses.

I think that he is overpriced at 9/1 compared to the two at the head of the market – Teacher and Tigertoo – who have been priced up short because of their connections and the fact that they are making their handicap debut.

To me he showed be no bigger than 7s at best, and at the odds on offer he looks worth an each-way wager.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Vexillum (9/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
