Growl is on a handy mark at present and rates a solid bet at 9/2 in the 3.25 at Nottingham today.

The gelding finished runner-up in the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes as a juvenile when trained by Brian Meehan, and also ran very well last saeson in some hot contests.

They included a 6 1/2 length seventh of 12 in a Group 3 at Ascot and a 5 3/4 length fifth of 12 to Adaay in a Listed contest at Newbury in the early part of the campaign.

Growl’s form then tailed off, but there was lots to like about his first run for trainer Richard Fahey when fourth of 13 to Avon Breeze at Ripon.

He kept on nicely to be beaten just over 2 lengths having travelled strongly in mid-division, and it was an effort which suggested his new connections would not be long in getting him back on the scoresheet.

That view was confirmed when Growl ran a solid race to finish fourth of 14 to Kimbeerella in a class 2 5f contest at Chester off 89.

The winner has since gone on to finish an unlucky second in the Investec “Dash” at Epsom, and the sixth home Confessionla has come out and won since.

That gives the form a strong look in the contest of this class 3 contest and Growl comes into it on the back of another solid fourth at Thirsk.

Growl is also now able to race in this off 87, and having been rated as high as 97 in the past is undoubtedly weighted to go in again.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Growl (9/2 Coral, Stan James – BOG)
