Shipyard is back down to his last winning mark and makes plenty of appeal at 10/1 in the 3.55 at York today.

Mick Appleby trained gelding was in fine form last season when winning three times, with the last of those successes coming in an 18-runner affair at Ascot where he beat Vimy Ridge by a beck off a mark of 87.

Although Shipyard has failed to get his head in front in 10 starts this season he has run well to make the frame on several occasions off a mark of 89.

He is now able to race off his last winning mark of 87 and comes into the race on the back of a solid run when fifth of 16 to Shamson at Ascot.

Shipyard held every chance until weakening close home to be beaten just 1 1/4 lengths and it was an effort which suggested his time was near.

With Ben Curtis back in the saddle, who has won and been placed on him in four starts, everything looks in place for a bold bid.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Shipyard (10/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
