West End Rocker has dropped to a handy mark and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 14/1 in today’s Betfred Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter (3.50).

Alan King’s charge has some useful form to his name back in 2010/11, with his last win coming in the Becher Chase at Aintree where he stayed on strongly to slam Niche Market by 22 lengths off a mark of 137.

He has had just six runs since and although he was well beaten in the first five of those he took a step back in the right direction when finishing third to Monekrty Tunkety in a veterans’ chase at Doncaster when last seen in action back in February 2013.

The 12-year-old kept on well that day to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths off a mark of 139 and noe gets into this off 134.

That makes him look well-treated on his win in the Becher, especially as he was rated 149 after that success.

Another plus is that he comes into the race fresh, and although he has not run for 388 days he has run well and won after lengthy lay-offs in the past.

The marathon trip will certainly hold no fears, and with Wayne Hutchinson in the saddle and underfoot conditions fine he looks weighted to run a big race off just 10st.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way West End Rocker (14/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
