.
this past thursday, saw Shadows Fall and Five Finger Death Punch set the sold out manchester academy alight with a night of metal mayhem.
First up, Shadows Fall sent the capacity crowd into delirium with a set comprising of new material for the band’s recent Retribution album and a bevy of fan favourites.
New album opener ‘Still I Rise’ sent the crowd into a frenzy, Brian Fair encouraging the adoring mob on hand to crazy at every opportunity in between weilding his dreadlocks like arms on a windmill in a flurry of headbanging.
‘Redemption’ and ‘What Drives the weak’ also standing out.
Headliners Five Finger Death punch, took to the stage to a chorus of chants from the loyal fans lucky enough to have got a ticket.
The place erupted as the L.A. metalcore supremos blasted through tracks from their latest long player ‘War Is The Answer’.
Ivan Moody ripped through past singles ‘The Bleeding’ and ‘Never Enough' backed up on vocals by the masses in attendance.
The band’s rebellious ethos is summed up when frontman Ivan asks the audience ‘How many of you have heard our new record?’ - ‘How many of you bought it?’ the latter question is met by some guilty laughter amongst the crowd.
A look of disapproval from 5FDP is followed by Ivan exclaiming ‘As long as you bought a ticket, that’s all we care about!’
bassist Matt Snell cut an image of beelzebub himself with his wild hair and pointy beard.
As the band wrapped up their set and the lights came on, the crowd, fully charged up on metal mayhem descended upon the damp Manchester streets with a ringing in their ears and their throats soar from screaming.
This just might be the most intense metal tour currently doing the rounds!
