Boomerang Bob will relish the drop back to 7f in the 2.35 at York and looks cracking value at 5/1 to beat the red-hot jolly Saamid.
John Hills’ colt developed into a useful juvenile after winning on his debut at Kempton, and showed that he had trained on when an excellent second to Caspar Netcher in the Greenham on his seasonal reappearance.
He led at the furlong pole before being unable to find any extra close home in the rain softened ground but stuck to the task well to be beaten just a length.
The son of Aussie Rules then went on to finish 13th of 18 to Camelot in the 2000 Guineas, and although beaten 11 lengths he ran far better than that suggests.
He posted really quick sectionals until tiring badly inside the last, suggesting that he didn’t get home over the mile trip and a drop back to 7f was what was needed for him to be seen at his best.
He ran the middle of the race in times similar to the winner Camelot, and is clearly a horse with a big engine.
Connections have wasted no time in backing him back to 7f, and I feel that today’s quicker conditions will also suit him better.
To me he looks overpriced at 5/1 for a horse with his ideal conditions, and with Mikael Barzalona in the saddle he looks terrific value to beat the fragile odds-on favourite.
