Well-treated Gypsy Rider a 7/1 Brighton beauty

Gypsy Rider runs off a career-low mark in the 5.30 at Brighton today and looks decent value at to take advantage and land the spoils.

The gelding last scored when landing a 7f handicap at this venue last July when trained by Richard Curtis, where he ran on strongly to get up and beat Hawk Moth by a neck off a mark of 53.

Since then he has posted some really solid efforts to make the frame, including when third of 14 to Perfect Pastime at Lingfield in November off 55.

He was headed close home and beaten just a 1/4 of a length that day, and followed up with a fair sixth of 13 to Spirit of Gondree over a mile at Kempton.

The selection then wasn’t best placed when staying on last from the rear of the field to finish a 6 1/4 length fifth of 12 to Bertie Blue Boy at Lingfield, and was then given a shocking ride when finishing a never nearer sixth of 12 to Ghost Train at the same venue over 7f after encountering a troubled passage.

The five-year-old also ran well when finishing fifth of 11 to Wotalad at Wolverhampton last time out on his first start for Henry Tett when shaping as if needing the run, his first for 76 days.

That should have blown away the cobwebs, and he now gets into this contest off a career-low mark of just 50.

It gives him every chance from a handicapping perspective, and it’s interesting that Ned Curtis – who rode him to his last success – is now back in the saddle and takes off another invaluable 5lb.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Gypsy Rider (7/1 William Hill BOG)
