Howyadoingnotsobad shaped as if coming back to his best when runner-up last time out and looks decent value at 7/1 to go one better in the 6.35 at Epsom this evening.

Karen George’s gelding has won four times over the minimum trip on the all-weather, with his last success coming at Kempton last August where he showed his customary early pace to lead before rallying strongly when headed a furlong from home to beat Muhdiq by 1 3/4 lengths off a mark of 73.

He now gets into this off the same rating, and although he has yet to win on the turf he has proved he is effective on it with some solid efforts – including when runner-up to Catflap on his latest start at Windsor.

The five-year-old showed plenty of early dash to lead that day and kept on well when headed in the final 100 yards to be beaten just a length.

It was an effort which suggested his time was near again, and Ryan While – who rode him that day – is now able to claim his full 7lb allowance compared to the 2lb he was allowed in that apprentice contest.

This flying 5f should also be right up his street, and if he can build on his latest effort then he looks the one they all have to beat and overpriced at the odds on offer.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Howyadoingnotsobad (7/1 Boylesports, Hills – BOG)
