Mark Wallis’s stayer has already won two major competitions in the shape of the Golden Jacket and TV Trophy – two of the sport’s biggest events – and now aims to add the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency title to his mantlepiece.
However, he faces a stern test in a bid to make it 13 wins on the spin – the big race takes place at 8.24pm – not least against kennelmates Bombay Nutty and Garfiney Blaze, plus the up-and-coming Romeo Empire.
The latter is trained by recent Derby-winning trainer Patrick Janssens.
Seamus Cahill sends out the other two Regency finalists in Art Riddler and Droopys Invent, chasing the £20,000 first prize, on a night the brilliant Droopys Clue’s retirement is honoured with a race in his name – the Droopys Clue Happy Retirement At Stud Trophy.
The dual St Leger winner and former Greyhound of the Year will parade before the 8.07pm, while other popular ex-tracker Churchfield Syd, trained by Richard Rees, will lead the parade for the 8.41pm – the Churchfield Syd Happy Retirement At Stud Trophy.
Saturday’s card also includes the Coral Sussex Cup at 7.49pm, worth £10,000 to the winner.
Favourite here is another Mark Wallis-trained star in Proper Heiress, who is already an Olympic champion!
He won the Coral Olympic at the backend of last year at Hove before heading to Monmore earlier this year to win the Ladbrokes Winter Derby.
The Sussex Cup has been won by some champions of the sport including the likes of Yankee Express, Hit The Lid, Slippy Blue, Phantom Flash, Toms The Best, Vinnie Jones’s Smoking Bullet and Barnfield On Air.
First race at Hove on Saturday is 6.08pm with the last at 9.16pm
