Greyhound Betting Preview: 8/1 Calzaghe can deliver knockout blow

An outstanding card from Newcasle tonight on Sky Sports 3 with the All England Cup Final taking centre stage at 9.19.

Pay Freeze heads the betting for the big one and it’s hard to see past Elaine Parker’s son of Ace Hi Rumble who has won his last 11 starts and been beaten just once in his career.

He has also never been beaten in four starts from the red jacket, and his win in heat one when producing a sensational 4.47 sectional and winning time of 28.36 would see him home and hosed in this.

If he breaks as he can and leads on the rails around the first bend then it will surely be a matter of what comes second, and at 11/10 with Stan James he looks value to me given that other firm are going odds-on.

Elsehwere on the card I fancy a couple of dogs at big odds to cause a couple of upsets.

The first is Calzaghe Jack who runs from Trap 1 in the 7.49 and looks too big at 8/1.

Ted Soppitt’s dog was narrowly denied a place in the All England Cup Final when finishing a 3 3/4 length third to Pay Freeze where he got crowded at the first.

In the circumstances it was a cracking effort, and he could well be handily drawn on the inside with two of the leading fancies drawn in five and six.

There is every possibility that trap 2 could lead him to the first bend, but if he can turn on that ones’ tail he should be able to pick him up.

If he does bang out and lead at the first then he is going to be hard to pass as he is a strong runner who finishes off his races well, and if there is any trouble on the outside he looks the one who could take advantage.

The other one that I like is T6 Airforce Diva who runs in the Angel Of The North Oaks Final at 8.34.

There is a cracking line-up for this contest but Charlie Lister’s bitch looks to have the plot draw in the stripes.

She looked a slightly unlucky loser when taking a bump at the first before running on strongly to be beaten 3/4 of a length by Akerview Gem in the qualifying heat wher she was sent off the 5/4 favourite and is confidently expected to gain revenge given the make-up of this race,

There is plenty of pace on the inside, with the favourite Bridge Ruth in Trap 1 and the last time she wore the red jacket she edge towards the middle at the first bend.

She can’t afford to do that here with Jaytee Jules in Trap 2 closely matched with her on the sectionals to the first bend, and with Akerview Gem sure to be heading towards the rails from Trap 3 there could well be some trouble up the inner.

That may well allow the selection a clear run on the outside, and she has the class to take advantage and bag another big prize for  Charlie, OBE.

Daily Sport recommended bets:

7.49 T1 Calzaghe Jack (8/1 Betfred, Coral, Ladbrokes)

8.34 T6 Airforce Diva (7/2 888sport, Sky Bet)

9.19 T1 Pay Freeze (11/10 Stan James)
