NO-ONE remembers semi-final losers they say, but second place will do at Monmore on Saturday!

Places in two major finals are up for grabs in the semi-finals of both the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic (630m) and Ladbrokes Gold Cup (480m) at the Wolverhampton venue.

The first two in each of three semis for both events make it through to £10,000-to-the-winner deciders next week – with Category One glory the ambition for runners in front of another bumper summer night’s crowd at the track.

And those good people at Greyhound Racing UK might help us pinpoint a winner – or three!

Best bet could be Romeo Empire (7.22) in his semi-final of the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic.

Trained by Derby-winning trainer Patrick Janssens, he caught the eye last week behind New Destiny and might go one better now as drawn in the red jacket. Antigua Kestrel might lead but can he keep the Empire at bay?

Still with the Stayers Classic, Mark Wallis’s Vhagar (7.39) will have learned plenty from a first look at Monmore last week.

Set to improve still further for what was an impressive victory, this powerhouse of a performer can sweep through to account for kennelmate Bombay Nutty.

Best in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup heats might be the David Mullins-trained Brindle Bully (8.13) to reverse heat form with Jacktavern Chief.

Bully was forced wide by his rival last week but a faster exit might soon put these rivals under pressure – and he is strong enough in front to hold on.
