WELCOME to a brand new link-up between the Daily Sport our sister paper The Bet and those good people at Greyhound Racing UK – and the timing couldn’t be better.
There is greyhound racing from Newcastle Stadium on the Gone To The Dogs – Live! YouTube channel on Thursday night – make sure you subscribe – and Daily Sport and TheBet readers are on to a winner.
We cast our eye over the action in the north east from the Byker track – yes, the same Byker from where Ant & Dec took their first steps on to television superstardom. But who will star on the track at Newcastle on Thursday?
Who will be top dog? And will the Geordie faithful be cheering the black and white stripes of trap six more loudly? Okay, we’re pushing it now.
Catch all the action on the track via Gone To The Dogs – Live! from 7pm on youtube.com/@gonetothedogs-live with further informatIon on X @GTTDPodcast and see how one of the major races of the year at Newcastle – and greyhound racing – unfolds.
The big race is the Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat Final over 480m, worth £12,500 to the final, and supported by the final of the Arena Racing Company Angel of The North which offers a first prize of £7,500.
The Northern Flat final is due off at 9.28pm and Droopys Bookem looks booked for a great run inside. He ran well in the English Greyhound Derby and can make the most of his red-box slot to strike for trainer Tom Heilbron.
Earlier, Coppice Saphire (9.11pm) might be a gem for backers in the Arc Angel of The North Final. She came home strongly in the heats and Jimmy Fenwick’s bitch might be tough to hold as the race unfolds.
Other picks include Glenn Foot’s impressive Northern Flat heat winner Jacktavern Chief (8.01pm) and Savva Roberts’s Stonework Hoffa (8.54pm).
