Today we hear from this years 5th place couple Whitney Adebayo and Yamen Sanders read more on your Daily Sport as we feature each couple.
Whitney, for once and for all, please can you explain the meaning of ‘Charge it’?
Whitney: “I say it when I’ve got more to say but don’t want to say it, so I just… charge it. It’s like ‘done’. It’s almost ‘it is what it is’ vibe.”
How do you feel to have reached the final?
Yamen: “Wasn’t expecting it. Excited that we made it here! In terms of winning… I didn’t come in thinking, ‘I want to win’. I was coming in hoping to meet someone. Worst case scenario leave just with friends, best case… leave with a ‘ting. I got both!”
Whitney: “I came for vibes, so yeah! It feels good to reach the final.”
What is it that you like about each other so much? What’s your favourite thing about each other?
Whitney: “He’s a great communicator. Emotionally aware and he’s very calm and chill and really fun – and he’s fine sh**.”
Yamen: “From me I think it is Whitney’s depth of personality, we can be lighthearted, we can be fun, jokey, serious, we can have a deep and emotional chat, we can talk about business… literally everything. She’s a lot more feminine and soft and has a whole different side than what people probably assume. A lot of depth in there.”
What’s the thing you’re most excited to do as a couple in the real world?
Whitney: “I would say dates. I love dates.”
Yamen: “Travel. I’m looking forward to that, that’ll be fun. Get to London.”
Travel doesn’t seem like it’s playing on your minds… we’ve heard talk all the US boys are moving in together in the UK?
Yamen: “A lot of us will hang out. Of course, spend a lot of time with Whitney but a lot of us will hang out. Us American guys want to get a crib and maybe with Ciaran too, that’s definitely on the cards too.”
Whitney: “I’ve been to LA for work. I feel like this time it will be for pleasure and hopefully work.”
Yamen: “For me, I think it’s food. Some real soul food. American soul food – gumbo, corn bread, greens, yams, gravy on the chicken…. It’s delicious.”
Whitney: “I’ve only ever seen it in the movies. We’ll make some arrangements.”
Whitney: “The weather in London… he can’t wait. Put a jumper on babe! It’s going to give food, activities, chill vibes.”
Yamen: “I’ll be down to be a tourist and do some tourist sh**.”
Whitney: “I’ll take you for bants.”
Yamen: “For bants? That’s a new one…”
Everyone seems to be saying how much you bring out the best in each other – do you feel that?
Whitney: “I think so for sure. Yamen definitely makes me think a bit more before I talk. I’m like, ‘Wait, hold on.’ When I’m not with him, I’m like, ‘Oops.’
“I’d ask him, ‘Do you think I was right…?’ And he’d say, ‘No but you’re good.. Next time use the sandwich method. Positive, negative, positive.’ It’s more so delivery with me.”
Yamen: “The message is always good, just put a bit of emotion with it.”
How would you both sum up your time on the show?
Yamen: “It was everything I could have wished for. You never know what’s going to happen and who is coming to be in there – it’s a whirlwind. Being able to come out together it’s as perfect as it could have been. I was low key pretty nervous coming in. It’s a whole group of people from a whole different country, some people probably know each other a little bit. I don’t know anybody. Everybody was so warm and welcoming and cool and happy to meet. I honestly feel like I’m leaving with a whole bunch of new family members – brothers and sisters. It couldn’t have gone any better, really. Somehow ended up in the final!”
Whitney: “I didn’t anticipate this one happening. Ending up in the finals… LAX to London – not going to lie, great turn out!”
