GARAINT THOMAS WINS SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR 2018
Resort World, Birmingham hosted the 2018 BBC Sports Personality of The Year’s red carpet and pre-show party.
Many sports stars from Olympians, Para-Olympians, Boxers through to Football stars and a legendary Tennis player were all there, although a few missed this annual photo call, These included F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton who was obviously too busy writing his SPOTY acceptance speech, which was wasted as he finished 2nd to the ever smiling Welsh Tour De France 2018 winner Geraint Thomas, a worthy winner of this iconic title.
It was great to see boxer Michael Watson on the carpet smiling and posing for the assembled press, who was followed onto the red carpet by the “King of The Gypsy’s “, Tyson Fury and wife Paris, who after satisfying all our photo requests, spent a long time chatting to reporters, bloggers and TV Channels.
Billie Jean King was awarded ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, whilst Gareth Southgate won ‘Coach of the Year’ and the always grinning Billy Monger won the ‘Helen Rollason Award’ which is awarded for outstanding achievement in the face of adversity.
The reality TV world was represented by amongst others, Love Islands Josh Denzel and Kazimir Crossley and TOWIE’s Yazmin Oukhellou, who’s translucent dress revealed her ‘Bridget Jones’ inspired big pants.
Musical entertainment was supplied by amongst others George Ezra, a reformed to perform ‘3 Lions’ Baddiel, Skinner & the Lightning Seeds & the ever zany Paloma Faith who often delivers unusual performances, was grinning as she took to the stage with bouncy curly hair and a patterned colourful jacket covered in glitter to kick off the night with a explosive rendition of Aretha Franklin’s super hit R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
