MIKE READ WALKS THE THAMES FOR CHARITY

February saw Mike Read set off on a 5/6 day walk, from the source of the Thames to Windsor (approximately 125 miles) to raise awareness and money for Parkinson’s UK.

We caught up with Mike on Day 2 to wish him well and later, joined him in Windsor at the end of his epic solo walk that raised over £4000

On completing the walk Mike told us” It was freezing, wet, muddy and the incessant head wind was clearly a precursor to the ‘Beast from the East!’ But I made it to Windsor Bridge on time! On behalf of Parkinson’s UK and our pal Kid Jensen, thank-you for the support”

RIAT CELEBRATES THE RAF’S 100 YEARS HISTORY

HRH Prince Michael of Kent inspects the guard of honour at the Royal Parade, Royal International Air Tattoo, Fairford, Gloucestershire, UK

This years Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford was extra special this year as it helped in the 100th year celebration for the RAF with the The Duke of Kent, HRH Prince Michael of Kent, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Hillier and  Air Marshal Stuart Atha present at the Royal Parade in it’s honour. Also scheduled was a special flyby, which on the day of our visit had to be cancelled due to a sudden storm.

Other air displays did take place throughout the day , including the fantastic Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial flyby (see above) and the newer, and much louder, American Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II (below).

With so many static planes and displays to see, it is little wonder this event sells out quickly every year

GIGS AND TOURS

The Levellers perform We The Collective at Cheltenham Town Hall, Gloucestershire, UK

As usual our hectic year of photography lent enough time to enjoy several gigs throughout the year, here are a few pics and words from a few of our favourite ones.

The Levellers perform We The Collective at Cheltenham Town Hall, Gloucestershire, UK

It’s always fun going to see The Levellers in concert. 2018 saw them performing acoustically with a string trio and debuting songs from their album We The Collective. We managed to catch them at the sold out Cheltenham Town Hall, and were pretty glad we did…

Also at Cheltenham Town Hall we managed to get to see the Ska double header of The Beat and The Selecter (pics below). A night of classic Ska hits delivered to an enthusiastic crowd in a packed Town Hall.

Looking forward to seeing how Pauline, Gaps and the rest of The Selecter are going to celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2019. We also wish The Beat’s Rankin Roger a speedy recovery.
