A Winner – It Would Be Rooed Not To

Jack Channon is making a name for himself since taking over from Dad Mick, and he has an improving two-year-old on his hands in the shape of Illy’s Roo, an Australia gelding who finished eighth at Newbury on his debut, but took a big step forward in style when winning by three lengths at Salisbury on his only other start.

He still looked as if the experience would do him good, having to be pretty hard ridden from a long way out before getting on top to win going away, but a mark of 73 looks fair enough for his handicap debut, with the suspicion that he will only get better with more racing and perhaps the softer surface.
