Brahms And Liszt?

I am not going to pretend this isn’t the toughest day for some time with the likelihood of one meeting in the UK at best (Lingfield all-weather), a remotely possible at Punchestown, and Sha Tin in Hong Kong which is where I will start.

The best race of the day is a Class Two handicap with a first prize of £163,321 attracting a decent looking field. I suspect top-weight Packing Hermod will head the market under Lyle Hewitson after four wins from five starts including last time out when he led at the death to score by a neck, but I will be risking a very small each way bet on Johannes Brahms at the opposite end of the weights.

Formerly trained by Aidan O’Brien and a Listed second in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot (to Big Evs) and second again in the Group Two in the Gimrack Stakes at York, he was off for over a year and gelded but won here for the first time last month, suggesting he has finally settled in to his new environment.
