Sunday is never the easiest of days but if Gran Descans runs to his best I can see him winning the 4.30pm at Newcastle, a one and a half mile handicap.
After winning a pair of novice events at Doncaster and Lingfield on grass, he ran well on his handicap debut when second over course and distance, and is easily forgiven a below expectations sixth at Haydock when upped in class and trip, which he clearly failed to see out.
Somehow he sits at the bottom of the weights in this class, and with just the five career starts, he could get back to winning ways this afternoon.
