I will admit it – sometimes I let my heart rule my head, and if you don’t want to follow me over the cliff you don’t have to, but I am willing to give Jonquil one more chance in the Celebration Mile at 3.35pm.
A winner over seven furlongs on his seasonal debut at Newbury in the Greenham Stakes, he followed that with a head second to Henri Matisse in the French 2000 Guineas, but has let me down twice since after dropping back in trip with a 13th in the Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs and a frankly disappointing fifth over seventh in the Lennox Stakes here last month.
I refuse to believe he has lost his ability in a matter of weeks, and if he can bounce back to his French form then he has every chance of another victory.
