Exeter is my racecourse of choice to start this Tuesday and if Special John takes to first-time cheekpieces, he looks a solid each way option ahead of the handicap hurdle at 2.20pm.
Trained by the excellent Sam Thomas, the seven year old is yet to score over hurdles, but did win two races over fences here and at Wincanton before an added 5lb form the handicapper and a rise in class saw him finish fifth at Windsor.
His hurdles mark is a tempting 10lb lower which I assume is the reason they have targeted him at this race, and if he hurdles slickly enough (often the issue for chasers), I can see him running a big race and hopefully a winning one.
