Veteran newsman John Sergeant took up the challenge of a pad session with LEGENDARY former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton for the new series of his ITV show Barging Round Britain which aires tonight at 8pm on ITV1.
As he travels along the impressive and picturesque Peak Forest Canal, John stops off in Hyde, once a thriving manufacturing area, but an area that has seen a decline over the last 50 years. However, Ricky, who is staunchly proud of the area, has been determined to turn things around, offering new opportunities to local youngsters.
As Ricky tells John: “I won four world titles in two weight divisions, but I always see myself as the youngster off a council estate. I’m very, very proud of my roots.”
As John braves the boxing ring for a spar with Ricky, will he live to reach his final destination of Ashton-Under-Lyne?
