Bally Gilbert looks worth siding with at 10/1 on handicap debut in the 4.55 at Newbury today now stepped up in trip.
Ben Pauling’s charge ran a blinder on his sole start in a bumper when a 2 1/2 length runner-up to the now 137-ratted Mount Mews and was highly-tried on hurdles debut when eighth of 9 to Peregrine Run in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham.
He then shaped with penty of promise after a break when 14 1/2 length fifth of 14 to Keeper Hill over 2m 1f at Hereford, racing up with the pace before weakening approaching the last.
The winner is a useful sort who has gone to to land the hat-trick in a Listed contest at Huntingdon to be rated 139, the second home Skipthe Cuddles has also won since and the third home Westendorf has some decent winning form to his name going into the contest.
That gives the form a strong look and Bally Gilbert has since finished a staying on second over 2m 4f at Market Rasen.
He has been allotted an opening mark of 120 on the back of those efforts, and I think that is exploitable judged on his runs beind Mount Mews and Keeper Hill.
The step up to 3m should also suit given that he was placed twice over it in two Irish points and after just three starts over hurdles he is open to plenty more progress for a yard in decent form at present.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Bally Gilbert (10/1 Stan James – BOG)
