10/1 Native Spa worth a wager at Wetherby

Native Spa has slipped markedly in the weights and looks worth an each-way wager at 10/1 in the 2.55 at Wetherby today.

The gelding started life off in Irish points and finished a 20 length fifth of 9 to Faugheen on debut at Ballysteen.

Now in the care of Martin Smith, the seven-year-old’s form over hurdles has been patchy but Native Spa has shown that he has ability to win a race of this nature.

He ran a fair race to finish third to Frankies Promise at Newcastle last March, and also wasn’t disgraced on his penultimate start when fourth to Ballyvogue at Kelso on his first run back after a 147 days absence.

Native Spa also shaped as if still needing the run last time out when sixth at Mussleburgh, but was well-supported that day and sent off the 5/1 jt-second fav.

He should now be spot on to do himself justice, and the handicapper has been quick to lend a hand and drop him another 7lb to 80.

That is 25lb lower than his initial opening mark of 105, and he also now gets refitted with the tongue-tie and sports blinkers for the first time.

If they have the desired effect, Native Spa looks weighted to go well in the hands of Brian Hughes.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Native Spa (10/1 Betfred, BetVictor, Stan James, William Hill – BOG)
