Slim Pickens looks on a handy mark in the 12.45 at Sandown today and makes plenty of appeal at 10/1.

The gelding did well last season after joining trainer Dr Richard Newland, winning at Southwell and Worcester before finishing a fine third of 13 to Purple Bay in a class 1 listed handicpa hurdle at Market Rasen.

Slim Pickens made a couple of costly mistakes in the latter before keeping on at the one pace to be beaten 12 3/4 lengths off a mark of 130.

The seven-year-old went on to finish the campaign with a solid 1 1/4 length second to Collodi at Market Rasen off a mark of 131, with the pair pulling 26 lenbths clear of the third.

The handicapper has since dropped Slim Pickens 4lb to a mark of 127, and that makes him look well-treated in this class 3 contest on the pick of his form.

He also shaped quite nicely on sesaonal reapperance when a not knocked about eighth of 16 to Towering at Cheltenham last month, and should be much sharper with that run under his belt.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Slim Pickens (10/1 William Hill – BOG)
