12/1 Ace High the joker in the pack at Cheltenham

Ace High has been given a big chance by the handicapper and looks worth a  wager at 12/1 to take advantage in the 3.45 at Cheltenham today.

Victor Dartnall’s gelding is a very lightly raced sort who is clearly not the easiest to train but has some really solid form to his name which gives him a big shout at the weights in this.

His sole success came in a 3m beginners chase at Chepstow back in October 2011, where he made all  to win easing down by 3 1/2 lengths, and the runner-up has developed into a useful sort rated 146 while the third home TeaForThree –  who was beaten a further 9 lengths –  is now rated 158.

The selection was then off the track for 357 days before finishing a highly creditable third of 12 to Lost Glory at Chepstow last October off a mark of 142.

He was beaten 5 1/2 lengths that day but now meets the winner on 15lb better terms.

Although he was then pulled up 21 days later behind Roberto Goldback at Ascot, that run may have come too soon and his best form has come when going left handed so today’s track should suit far better.

The handicapper has also been kind in dropping him 6lb since that run to a mark of 136, and that makes him look handily weighted judged on his win over Duke Of Lucca and Teaforthree.

He also has a good record fresh, so the fact that this is his first run for 350 days can be seen as a plus rather than a negative.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Ace High (12/1 Ladbrokes – BOG)
